ABOUT GOOSEFEET GEAR

GooseFeet Gear was founded in early 2010 by Ben Smith, who was 20 years old at the time and in his 3rd year of college at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA.

The company started out with down socks as the primary product and quickly moved into other simple areas like waterproof over-booties and pillows. Ben started designing other products in late 2010 – mostly down pants, balaclavas, and vests. He used word of mouth to sell quite a few of these items. Starting in 2011, Ben started making jackets and quilts as well. If you are interested in a quilt or jacket, be sure to check out our CUSTOM GEAR page.

Nearly a decade later, GooseFeet Gear has become a brand known throughout the outdoor community for supplying high-quality, ultra-light custom down gear. And what’s best? Every item that we make is hand-made in the USA, so you can feel good about the fact that your hard-earned money is helping to keep a small local business going.

WHY “GOOSEFEET” GEAR?

Our first product was down socks, so Ben decided to come up with a name that would conjure up images of what he was selling. Since the down he used comes from geese, and you used the socks on your feet, “GooseFeet” was the obvious name for his product. As our product line has expanded, not everything we make for your “feet” but it’s still filled with high-quality maximum-lofting 850+ fill-power goose down, keeping you toasty warm on the coldest of days.

PRODUCT FAQS

WHY GOOSE DOWN?
We use goose down because it tends to produce higher fill powers and be more resilient and durable than duck down. Because a duck’s diet is usually more diverse (a goose only eats grass), goose down also tends to have less odor than duck.
WHAT DOES "850 FILL POWER" MEAN?
Down quality is measured by a number – usually between 300 and 900 – known as “fill power.” Fill power measures the number of cubic inches displaced by one ounce of down. A higher fill power means more loft which means less down is required to create the same amount of warmth as a lower fill power. At Goosefeet Gear, we use high-quality maximum-lofting 850 fill power down to create ultralight, super warm clothing.
DO YOU SHIP OUTSIDE THE USA?
Yes. Although we cannot offer free shipping outside of the USA, we will happily ship our down products to any location around the globe.
